Glue-Free VS. Self-Adhesive Whiteboards Reviewed

Glue-Free vs. Self-Adhesive Whiteboards Reviewed

In this post, I am going to personally review two popular whiteboard / dry-erase board products, Self-Adhesive Whiteboards and WallJOY Glue-Free Whiteboards. I have done a lot of research to find the pros and cons of each type I evaluated. I have tested and will be addressing:

  • Whiteboard Design
  • Adhesion Mechanism
  • Installation Ease
  • Damage-Free Removal
  • Price and Value
  • Smooth Writing and Erasing Experience
  • Usage Space
  • Product Longevity

Before I get into the review itself, I want to quickly mention some personal experience I’ve had with both types of whiteboards. In my children’s first years of schooling, I was very enthusiastic and invested in preparing a good learning environment at home. I set up their rooms with all the ways to aid in learning, which included the endless list of purchases from the desk, library shelves, pen holders, whiteboards, and so on.

As a result, I have had the opportunity to try several types of whiteboards over the years. Two common types are the self-adhesive whiteboard and the glue-free whiteboard.

The self-adhesive whiteboards, despite their long life, no longer motivated my child after a short period of time as he got bored with a plain board. Also, the preparation needed for every topic, from drawing lines for tables to drawing a map or multiplication tables, took time and effort. Additionally, when I took it off, I had to repair and repaint the wall.

On the other hand, the glue-free whiteboards last for a shorter period of time, but they stick to most surfaces easily and can be removed without any damage. The new versions are distinguished by their colors and themes and are ready for use without me having to plan out setup activities. Also, they can be renewed every year to suit the school stage of my children.

Whiteboard Design

The self-adhesive has no design, with a mostly blank white or clear board. Un-like other whiteboards, WallJOY has a wide range of whiteboards with themes that have colorful designs and learning levels for each school grade, as well as different subject-ready designs including coloring, handwriting, creative tracing, math, a weekly planner, a to-do list, and a calendar.

Adhesion Mechanism

The Self-adhesive Dry-erase Boards stick to the surface using adhesive, but the glue-free whiteboard sticks to the surface using an electrical charge as if it’s magnetic with no adhesive substance. You can apply both of them to many types of surfaces, such as wood, glass, printed walls, wallpapers, stainless steel, etc.

Installation Ease

The self-adhesive whiteboard is slightly tricky to install as it requires time and precision to avoid creating bubbles. It requires tools to smooth it out properly, so no bubbles form. The glue-free whiteboard is easy to install without any problems. Just pass your hand over it, and it will easily stick to the wall. Simply stick it on the wall in seconds.

Damage-Free Removal

Unfortunately, the self-adhesive whiteboards cannot be removed without leaving some damage to the surface. On the other hand, glue-free whiteboards can be removed easily without any problems, leaving no damage or traces behind.

Price and Value

With the variety of sizes and different accessories, it is difficult to get an accurate comparison. However, by calculating the average price per square meter, we find that the prices are similar between the two types.

Smooth Writing and Erasing Experience

Good news: when it comes to wiping off the marker, both the self-adhesive dry-erase board and the glue-free board leave no traces, no ghosting, and no staining.

Usage Space

You can install both the adhesive dry erase board and the glue-free board in indoor spaces like homes, schools, and offices.

Product Longevity

The adhesive dry erase board stands for a long time since it is plain and does not provide a variety of subject-ready resources and tools. The glue-free whiteboard lives for a shorter period of time as the nature of the usage is periodic, such as the yearly calendar and the different learning levels of each educational board that change as the child grows.

So,

Which one should you buy?

Depending on your purpose of use If you want miscellaneous boards that provide a variety of uses with ever-changing educational, practical, or entertainment purposes, then the better choice is glue-free whiteboards. With the added benefit of easy installation and damage-free removal, the amazing feature of ready-to-use themes is unbeatable.

However, if your use is constant, does not change, and does not need renewable multi-use designs, then you should think about the number of years that the product will last with the self-Adhesive whiteboards.

At the end of this solid comparison, I hope it was useful to you and gives you the keys when you need to buy one.
